Why it matters now

Model risk is now a supervisory priority, in India and abroad.

Credit scoring, ECL, pricing, liquidity, fraud detection and capital planning all run on models. RBI's draft guidance extends model risk management to every model an institution relies on: in-house, vendor-supplied or AI/ML.

  1. RBI draft principles

RBI's first dedicated proposal, focused on credit models.

  2. OSFI Guideline E-23

Enterprise-wide MRM in Canada, effective 1 May 2027.

  3. US revised guidance

Fed, OCC and FDIC replaced SR 11-7.

  4. UK PRA SS1/23 updated

Five principles treating MRM as its own discipline.

  5. RBI draft MRM guidance

    Enterprise-wide, including third-party and AI/ML models.

RBI's 2026 document is a draft guidance; the course will be updated as the framework is finalised. Refer to the RBI text for the requirements that apply to your entity.
